Understanding PrEP & HIV testing 

Convenient, confidential and completely judgment-free. Walk into any Northwell Health-GoHealth Urgent Care center for same-day PrEP and rapid testing to take charge of your health with confidence.

PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) 

  • A daily medication for people who are HIV-negative and want ongoing protection 
  • It’s a highly effective option as part of proactive, preventive care 

Rapid HIV testing and more 

  • You’ll receive your rapid HIV test results in about 15 minutes 
  • Receive additional STD testing and treatment during the same visit

  • You are interested in prevention and want ongoing protection like PrEP 
  • You want routine testing or simply want to know your status 
  • You have symptoms or concerns about an STD

What to expect during your first visit 

Step 1: Find your nearest center 

  • Check hours and save your spot online, or just walk in.  
  • Saving your spot online? Select “Other” for PrEP visits or “Illness” if you have symptoms or STD concerns. 

Step 2: Get tested and evaluated 

  • Talk with a provider about your needs, concerns and next steps 
  • Take a rapid HIV test and receive results in 15 minutes 

Step 3: Get a personalized care plan 

If eligible, you will receive a prescription sent to your preferred pharmacy. 

  • PrEP patients may receive a 30-day supply to start 

Step 4: Feel at ease 

  • Stay connected and supported with the Northwell Health HIV specialist for follow-up care 
  • Fast and easy connections to Northwell Health specialists when additional care is needed
